This is a tough one. I did not know that only approved foam balls would work with this machine. It comes with 3 baseballs, 3 softballs, and a bunch of smaller balls. I bought hard dimpled balls to use and they jammed up the machine. Under the product, it said that 'people purchasing this product also bought', and it showed the harder dimpled machine balls. I bought a dozen softballs and hard balls with the dimples. They don't work. I am now trying to find out which balls will work so I don't order the wrong ones twice. The foam balls seem gimicky, but they really zipped in. It is not very efficient having to collect balls after every 3. If the purpose is just to get used to the speed or a curve, the machine might be fine. I will wait and see how the setup works if I can find the proper balls to order. I put in ATEC foam softballs for a search, and the ATEC balls did not come up until the 4th item, but it has a different title. They said 'Atec Team Safety Foam Training Balls'. I don't know if these are the ones.
