Press Windows key + X

Click Command Prompt (Admin)

At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any integrity violations

Restart your system

It didn't work. I am installing a game that requires the install shield wizard. It pops up and stops working when it says 'Preparing to Install'. Then the error pops up.

  1. How are you trying to install the game by using a browser or from the Store or a DVD/CD?
  2. Which game are you trying to install?

I suggest you to try the steps provided below and check if it helps.

Try t install it in the Clean Boot.

This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. It starts Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.

1.Press Windows Logo Key+X. Click on Run.

2.Type msconfig. Click OK.

3.Then follow the steps from 3-7 for Windows 8.1 in the link below.
