To uninstall any package on Cygwin, run setup-x86.exe or setup-x8664.exe (which you should already have, or you can get them here), select 'ruby' under 'interpreters', click the round arrow icon until it says 'Uninstall', then continue. If you want to go from 32 to 64 bit Cygwin but keep all the packages[1], you might find yourself in a spot where you would like to export the list of cygwin packages and also be able to install cygwin with all these packages again. I will tell you how. Open your Cygwin shell and enter

  1. Install Cygwin. Download the current installation utility from the Cygwin site. I suggest the 64-bit version, setup-x8664.exe. Once the file downloads, move it to a sensible permanent location as the utility is used to update and make changes to your install.
  2. Step 2: Run Setup to Select, Download & Install Cygwin Packages Run 'setup-x8664.exe' ⇒ Install from Internet ⇒ select a directory (avoid installing in 'Program Files' because of that 'blank' character) ⇒ choose 'Local Package Directory' which saves the downloaded installation files ⇒ Direct Connection ⇒ choose a download mirror site.
